Abstract
This comprehensive report provides insights into the state of language training in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. The report is based on a survey of front-line workers in the newcomer-serving sector and identifies key areas that require further reflection and action to promote improved sector health. The report highlights the challenges faced by front-line staff in delivering language training and provides recommendations for addressing these challenges. The report is an essential resource for policymakers, service providers, and other stakeholders interested in improving the quality of language training services for newcomers in the PNT region.

Key findings:
Front-line staff identified 6 key priorities to improve their experience in the Language Training program: a) stability of employment, b) professional development opportunities, c) general workplace culture, d) atmosphere and sense of employee belonging, e) health and retirement benefits, f) compensation benefits such as salary rates and structures.
The current funding environment for the Language Training program is a significant challenge, as it impacts compensation, mental health, wellbeing, and professional growth and stability of front-line staff.
Front-line staff have had to adapt to new technologies and build online supports for their clients, while also supporting newcomers who have digital literacy issues and barriers in accessing technology.
Management and leadership play a critical role in implementing and emulating best practices for their staff in all areas, such as constructive feedback, professional growth and advancement, and conflict resolution.
